On 22nd September our team of runners named Blood Sweat and Tears from the University of Cambridge, Department of Haematology and NHS-BT service, ran in the Cambridge Chariots of Fire relay race.

Only one member of the team had ever run in the event before, a 1.7 mile run over the cobbles, paths and streets of the most iconic parts of the university city centre.

After fighting a little through the crowd of over 200 starting runners on the first leg, and trying not to be lapped by the fastest teams, each of us ploughed on through ‘the backs’ of St John’s and King’s college to hand over to the next runner.

Each of us ran an average of 15 minutes to get a final time of just over 1hr 30 over all. We nearly qualified as the fastest mixed team but realised we didn’t have enough men to claim the award. A very unusual position to be in!

The money we raised was split equally between the race charity, Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, and SDS UK..
