DR JONATHAN KELL

Jonathan Kell trained in Cambridge, graduating in 1989, with a Blue in Athletics. He moved to Wales soon after completing his house job in Norwich and Ipswich, and having completed his general medical training in Swansea, before taking up specialist training in Cardiff in 1994.  He became a Lecturer in 1998 completing research in retinoid receptors in acute myeloid leukaemia.  He was made consultant in 2002 and was Clinical Director between 2010 and 2018.

 

His main interests are in the myeloid leukaemia, myelodysplasia and other bone marrow failure syndromes, and is the Haemoglobinopathy lead for Wales and has established new pathways for the emergency presentation of these patients.  He is Chair of the Planned Care Transformation Board at the University Hospital of Wales.

 

Outside work, Jonathan is a keen follower of Ulster and Irish rugby.He plays competitive chess for Bridgend Chess Club and enjoys playing Bach on the organ.
